What is the purpose of the CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is dedicated to diminishing financial barriers that could impede access to dental prostheses, like dentures. Those meeting the eligibility criteria can apply to the CDCP, with applications processed gradually based on age. The commencement date for restorative services, essentially the replacement of missing teeth, varies for each individual.

Complete dentures :
Starting in May,2024

Partial dentures :
Starting in November,2024

Covered services

  • Complete dentures, including standard and temporary (or immediate) options
  • Repair, relining, and rebasing of removable dentures
  • Addition of acrylic resins to dentures for improved oral tissue comfort
  • Complete immediate denture and hybrid denture (subject to prior authorization)
  • Initial fitting of a partial denture (subject to prior authorization)

Before initiating any treatment, your denturist can submit an estimate to the insurance company providing coverage to determine what will be covered and confirm any payable difference depending on the required treatment plan. You may be responsible for a portion of the treatment costs. Sunlife manages requests and payments for the CDCP.

Steps to follow

  • Receive a letter from the government indicating your eligibility,
  • Enroll in the CDCP,
  • Receive your Sunlife insurance company card, containing the necessary numbers,
  • Consult your denturist, who will provide an estimate confirming costs, if any,
  • Await the insurance company's response,
  • Return to the denturist to commence treatment,
  • Upon completion of treatment, the denturist will submit the final payment request, and you may be required to pay any applicable difference.
